Vacationing around the holidays is best when you have an itinerary that suits the holly jolly mood! If you’re thinking of visiting the Poconos with Sundance Vacations this winter season, you’ll want to explore some of the best activities to make your vacation merry and bright. Below are things you can do on your next visit to the Poconos for a cozy winter getaway!
Snow Sports
Pennsylvania is a popular destination for winter sports. There are several places to participate in recreational winter activities, but the most popular are Jack Frost Big Boulder, Blue Mountain Resort, and Camelback Mountain. All three are great locations for adventurous excursions and family vacations. While skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing are the most common ways to kick up some white, fluffy powder, dog sledding is also a unique experience. Arctic Paws Dog Sled Tours allows you to swiftly glide along well-groomed terrain with a pack of trained huskies! Online reservations open on November 27th. You can watch stunning timelapse videos of the snowy landscapes by visiting the Pocono Mountains website.
Sleigh Rides
What brings families more holiday cheer than a sleigh ride? Happy Trails Stables is the top spot in the Poconos to plan your journey through the crystalline slopes and valleys. Happy Trails Stables is open year-round and offers more than just sleigh rides. Carriage rides, trail rides, pony rides, hayrides, and sleigh rides are only some of the entertainment options offered. Another option for a horse-drawn carriage ride is Scott Lignore Carriage Rides in Jim Thorpe. These rides are admired because of their large capacity carriages. Whatever the occasion, Scott Lignore offers 6-seater wagons and 12-seater wagons for larger parties and groups. Like Happy Trails Stables, Scott Lignore offers single rider trail rides, as well.
Indoor Waterparks
If you’re a local, you’ve definitely heard of Kalahari Resorts before. Kalahari was voted as one of the “world’s coolest waterparks.” If you still want to have summer fun in the freezing cold, an indoor waterpark will provide a toasty (but wet!) environment. Though there’s SO MUCH to do at Kalahari Resorts, the indoor waterpark features indoor spas, a lazy river, a simulated bodyboarding and surfing, a water play area for young children, and various twisting slides! Camelback Resort has recently introduced an indoor waterpark in 2015 to its fun list of activities as well—Aquatopia! Filled to the brim with fun, Aquatopia consists of 13 waterslides and designated children’s play areas. Guest favorites are Penguin Play Bay, Mountain Mayhem, and the Venus Slydetrap.
Holiday Events
The Poconos is known for its holiday festivities and excitement leading up to Christmas. If you’re looking to get into the holiday spirit and let your inner child out, there are many festivals and shows that’ll allow you to do just that. Starting on November 25th you can experience West End Festival of Lights, Winter Wonderland, A Christmas Carol, Honesdale Santa Christmas Tree Express, Santa Clause Special, and Breakfast with Santa! (Woo, what a start to Christmas!) Throughout December, there will also be, Hawley Winterfest, Santa’s Arrival & Tree Lighting at Camelback, Candlelight Christmas Dinner, 32nd Quiet Valley Old Time Christmas, An Elvis Christmas Show, Holiday Bows and Boughs, and much, much more. Be sure to check out the complete list winter and holiday events happening on the Pocono Mountain website!
