American Revolution Museum at Yorktown
The Battle of Yorktown was a pivotal moment in the American Revolution that made it clear America had an advantage. The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown hosts 500+ period artifacts that originate from the mid-1700s, as well as immersive environments, dioramas, interactive exhibits, and films. Williamsburg is one of the most historic cities in the nation, and if you’re looking to take a deep dive into this rich history, this museum must be added to your bucket list!
Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
This year marked the 40th anniversary of the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, and to celebrate the milestone, the garden is hosting special events and activities for guests! During the summer, you can experience Waterway Wednesdays, Flowers After 5, and the Groovin’ in the Garden series—all of which include exciting adult classes, children’s activities, flourish-related classes, and tours! Plant sales are often held throughout the year where visitors can pick up their favorite perennials! Japanese maples, succulents, daylilies, and vegetable garden starters are only a small portion of plants that you can purchase on your trip!
The Mariners’ Museum and Park
The Mariners’ Museum is open daily from 9:00AM to 5:00PM for guests to enjoy—only for a $1 admission fee—while The Mariners’ Park is free and open to the public daily from 6:00AM to 7PM. There are plenty of exhibits to explore and events to take part in! Check out the ship model gallery and listen to one of the many upcoming educational discussions. The museum also offers “friendly hours” for those with mobility, cognitive, and physical disabilities who prefer a quiet environment. Mariners’ Park will guide guests through a stunning urban oasis as they travel along routed trails and explore popular park destinations.
Historical Sites
Hollywood Cemetery
Described as an outdoor museum established in 1847, the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia is both a fully functional rural cemetery and a tour site. Many historical figures, including Presidents, Virginia governors, soldiers, and famous writers are buried in the casual garden-style cemetery. Tours are held from April through November and guests can be guided through the 135-acre property in different ways—via historical walking tours, gem car tours, segway tours, trolley tours, and more! You can also donate to the Hollywood Cemetery if you feel so inclined. All proceeds are applied to preservation, genealogy, and technology, all of which are used to keep the cemetery in tip-top shape.
Yorktown Battlefield
Time to return to Yorktown to explore the site of the last major battle of the Revolutionary War. Walk in the footsteps of General George Washington as you traverse the battlefield. At the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center, you can watch a short film about the Siege of Yorktown, walk through the museum exhibits, or join a guided tour. Outside the Visitor Center, you can hop aboard a free trolley tour that’ll take you around the village of Yorktown. From now until the end of the year, you can watch Royal Artillery and Lamb’s Artillery fire canons across the field while dressed in period-appropriate attire.
Jamestown Settlement
Located near the site of the original colony, Jamestown Settlement is an immersive museum chockful of Virginia history. Both the Jamestown Settlement Museum and the previously mentioned American Revolution Museum at Yorktown are open year-round, except for major holidays. Itinerary suggestions, information on private tours, and dining options can all be found online. The Jamestown Café is a great place to stop for a casual bite to eat! They even offer delicious gluten-free menu options! Several events are also held throughout the year, like Indigenous Arts Day, Free Military Admission Day, and Yorktown Victory Celebration!

Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Busch Gardens Williamsburg is celebrated for its exhilarating attractions. The latest buzz revolves around its newest restoration, Loch Ness Monster— The world’s first interlocking loop coaster themed around the myth of Scotland’s Loch Ness Monster. The refurbished version of this 46-year-old classic resurfaces on May 10th and is sure to draw in quite a crowd. From newer additions like DarKoaster and Pantheon to timeless favorites like Apollo’s Chariot and Griffon, the park offers a plethora of thrills. For those seeking a slower pace, delights like Elephant Run and Der Roto Baron await. From now until June 9th, you can also treat yourself to tasty food and fun entertainment at the Food & Wine Festival.
Virginia Beach Boardwalk & Activities
Who doesn’t love visiting the boardwalk? The three-mile-long oceanfront Virginia Beach Boardwalk stretch offers dining and lounging, fishing, bike rentals, sweet treats, amusement parks, and much more. If you’re looking to plan an extra special visit, there are unique nearby attractions that’ll make for a memorable vacation. Dolphin Kayak Eco-Tours guides guests along the Virginia coast where bottlenose dolphins can be spotted, especially in the summer! The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center offers an aerial park that’s perfect for ziplining and obstacle course adventures. Finish off your day with some family photos at Flashback Old Time Photos. Not only do you get to dress up in costumes, but you’ll be making everlasting memories while doing so!

Take a stroll along the cobblestone streets of Colonial Williamsburg and visit the shops at Merchants Square. Looking for finely threaded apparel? How about specialty foods to satisfy your tastebuds? Shops like The Shoe Attic and Monkee of Williamsburg offer standout styles to suit all fashion needs. Though each and every eatery on the Merchants Square website makes our mouths water, we’re particularly fond of the gastropub DoG Street Pun and the award-winning Fat Canary.
