Vacations are the time to relax, unwind and finally do everything that you’ve ever wanted. While having fun seems pretty straightforward, there are ways of ensuring that your vacation is the best it can be. Follow these five tips to enhance your time at any destination!
1. Decide What to Bring
You don’t have to bring all of your belongings with you while you travel. In fact, it can be nice to leave everything behind and start anew for a week. However, there are a few essential items that you should bring along with you.
If you’re going to Myrtle Beach, then you’ll want to bring sunscreen. While they may have some there, you don’t want to spend your first day looking for your favorite brand, and then paying twice as much for it. Bring your own brand so that you feel comfortable wherever you are. This also applies to towels and swimsuits for the beach. While you can buy them when you arrive, you may not find the right size and it will certainly be more expensive.
2. Booking Shows and Events
It’s nice to not have to plan too much, and instead see where the day takes you while on vacation. However, if there are any special shows or events on a larger scale, then you may want to book tickets early. Some places, such as Disney resorts, sell tickets to concerts and live events as far as six months or just as little as weeks in advance. If you know that you and your family would love a show, then it never hurts to book early. That way, you can avoid frustrations should the show sell out.
3. Have a General Outline
Depending on where you’re going, there may be some great landmarks or restaurants that are absolutely worth your time. You don’t have to create a rigid schedule to follow, but creating a general outline of things you’d like to see or do will help you to have the best time possible. Look for reviews on the best restaurants or cafes in town and write them down so that you don’t forget. Look for areas with special activities, like spas or playgrounds for kids, and make a note so that you never get bored. This outline can be as detailed or as general as you’d like, but as the next tip shows, it’s OK if doesn’t go exactly as planned.
4. Lose Your Schedule
That’s right! While you don’t have to throw your schedule out of the car window, sometimes it can feel great to forget about all your plans and just go with the flow. If your schedule says “dinner at the Poconos Hotel,” but during the day you find out that there is a grand BBQ on the other side of town or in a different part of the beach, then you should go and enjoy it! Unlike daily life, where missing a meeting can bring real-life problems, being spontaneous and dropping things on a whim is what makes a vacation special. Vacations are a time for you and your family to relax and unwind, so don’t feel bad if your schedule gets lost in the wind; instead, embrace it!
5. Have Fun!
This one’s simple, but surprisingly often forgotten. Have fun during your vacation and don’t let the little things bring you down. Sure, the flight may be crowded with crying babies, the shuttle to the hotel might be slow, but let these things slide and have a laugh about them later. Let go and enjoy the stars from the warm beach sand. Have a few more margaritas than you’re used to and forget about your work and routine while you’re gone. If you can do this, you will have the best time while creating new memories on your vacation.
