When you think of New England, one of the first things that comes to mind is Seafood. More specifically, Lobster.
Sundance Vacations has a number of properties in the New England region of the United States and we can ensure that you save a whole bunch of money while checking them out. From Maine to Cape Cod and even Stowe, Vermont, our travelers can check out the best places in the Northeastern United States. Which of course, partly includes, delicious seafood.
This week’s Sundance Vacations’ Travel Inspired Recipe is for the well-known Lobster Roll. You can find the traditional version of these all over New England as well as a few variations too. Normally served with potato chips of french fries on the side, this sandwich can make a perfect lunch or even a hearty dinner, depending on how much lobster you pile onto your bun.
The classic version is usually served cold / chilled, but there are versions where the lobster itself is served hot.
Regardless of how you take yours, the Lobster Roll is a part of New England cuisine and has been since as far back as the 1930s. They are fairly simple to make and can have you feeling like you are sea side in no time.
Who can put a time frame on deliciousness? If you must know however, this dish requires about 30 minutes of prep work and 30 minutes of cooking time, bringing your total time to about an hour. You can save time however, by cooking the lobsters the day before or even by purchasing already cooked lobster. This recipe will make enough for six servings!
Ingredients
- Kosher salt
- 3 1 1/4-pound live lobsters (TIP: Prepare ahead or buy already cooked lobster to save time)
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
- 2–3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 6 New England–style split-top hot dog buns
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
Preparation
Pour water into a large pot to a depth of 1 inch; bring to a boil and salt generously. Add lobsters, cover, and cook until bright red, 8–10 minutes. Transfer lobsters to a rimmed baking sheet and let cool.
Once cooked, crack lobster shells, pick meat from tail and claws, and cut into 1/2-inch pieces. Mix lobster, celery, lemon juice, chives, and 2 tablespoons mayonnaise in a medium bowl; season with salt and pepper and add more mayonnaise. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Spread flat sides of buns with butter. Cook until golden, about 2 minutes per side; fill with lobster mixture.
(TIP: Prepare ahead or buy already cooked lobster to save time.)
