Stay Fit While on Vacation!

Stay Fit While on Vacation!

When going on vacation, most people just want to relax and forget the “real world”. While it’s great to unwind, it’s still important to keep up with some of your normal activities. (Even if you lessen them just a bit ?)

Here are some tips to help you stay fit while traveling and avoid coming home with unwanted extra baggage.

  1. Be Realistic

When on vacation you don’t have to expect to fit in your normal workout plan. It’s ok to slack a little, so when deciding what you’ll do, think about what workouts are on the easier side. Some workouts include running / walking on the beach or boardwalk, doing push-ups, sit-ups, lunges, or other activities that don’t involve equipment.

  1. Plan Ahead

If you’re someone who just needs to be in the gym, make sure that before booking a vacation you check to see if the resort has a gym on-site or nearby. If you already have a vacation booked and they don’t have a gym on-site, check to see where the closest gym is. Worse case scenario is you can work out with just your surroundings.

  1. Eat Healthy

Now, we’re not telling you that you shouldn’t have lobster while on vacation, but just to remember to eat healthy as well. If you’re at a restaurant, don’t be afraid to ask the waitstaff at whether it’s possible for them to prepare your favorite dishes with a few healthy modifications.

  1. Be Creative with your Workouts

One of the best things about being on vacation is that you don’t have to stick to your normal routine, and that includes your work out! Take this time to try different ways of working out such as biking, hiking, taking a pedal boat, water skiing or playing beach volleyball. Effective workouts don’t have to be limited to the standard fitness machines, weights and treadmills.

  1. Go Sight Seeing

Yes, you read that correct! One way to work out is to go walking, whether it be on the beach or around town! Walking can help burn calories and make a great memory while being on vacation!

  1. Go for a Swim

Taking a beach vacation, or staying at a hotel with a pool? Swimming is a great way to stay in shape, and it can be quite relaxing! Whether you play some games in the water with friends and family or swim a couple laps in the pool or the ocean, swimming will definitely help you with your workout goals!

  1. Be Creative

When on vacation you most likely don’t want to be stuck inside for the 2-hour workout you normally do at home. Take your vacation or travel stay as an opportunity to find unique, fun ways to exercise instead of doing the same old routine. Try biking, hiking, taking a pedal boat excursion, water skiing or playing beach volleyball.

  1. Stay Hydrated

On of the most important and essential things you should do is stay hydrated during your trip. Drinking enough water will help you stay energized and support your active adventures. If you consume adult beverages while on vacation is even more important to make sure you have enough water. Alcohol dehydrates your body, causing hangovers that will definitely make being active the next day a lot more difficult and less enjoyable.
