Fall DIY Table Decorations to Remember your Getaway
This is the time of the year when many of our Sundance Vacations travelers are coming back from their fall getaways- and what a better way to remember your vacation than by making some great fall leaf crafts out of the foliage you brought back from your trip?
Perhaps you visited our property in Breckenridge, Colorado and brought back some bright yellow aspen leaves; or you gathered the most gorgeous collection of burgundy and ruby ones from your trip to the Pocono Mountains in Cresco, Pennsylvania.
No matter what colors you collected, we have three great fall leaf crafts to save those leaves for many years to come.

Here’s a breakdown of what to do to make these kid-friendly fall crafts:
Fall Leaf Candle Display
Things You Need:
Fall leaves, a glass jar, a votive candle, decorative ribbon, a glue stick or Mod Podge, and a sponge or brush.
All of these items are things you can find at your typical craft store for a relatively cheap price. When shopping, consider purchasing a clear jar without writing on it to have an even surface across the whole jar to work with. Also, keep the ribbon a neutral color like burlap to accent the bright fall leaves.
To begin, take your glue stick and run it across the back of your leaves. This is just to keep your leaves adhered to the jar before glossing them over with the mod podge. You could also just use your Mod Podge as a glue to get them to stick, just don’t slop it on too heavy.
Arrange them in any way you like. We put on some of the big leaves on first and then layered smaller leaves to add a building effect, but feel free to get creative.
After you place them on the jar you can open your gloss and take your sponge or brush to paint over your jar. Cover the whole thing in a thin layer so it dries clear. If you layer it on too thick it will look more opaque than see-through and dry in white clumps. If you do accidently lay your Mod Podge on too thick, take a dry paper towel to it while it’s still wet to remove excess gloss.
Let this dry overnight before putting the decorative ribbon on it.
Some people like to fill the jar with corn kernels or candy corn to elevate the votive candle to a certain height, but we just put a glitter battery operated votive inside that flickers like a real candle.
This piece looks so warm and inviting in the dark!
Fall Leaf Shadow Box
Things You Need:
A shadow box, a clear acrylic spray, and your leaves.
Lay a paper towel down and spray your leaves with the acrylic spray either outside or inside near a window. This particular spray tells us to allow 10-15 minutes to dry, so we will do that on each side. It also says to wait till 2 hours after spraying to handle the item so this is something good to do ahead of time if you’d like to preserve your leaves to ensure they don’t dry out and crack apart in your shadow box.
After they dry you simply place one in the center of each shadow box with your tape and viola, you’re simple and classy fall leaf display is done!
The secret to this project is it looks so classy, but no one realizes it only took you a few minutes to do.
Fall Leaf Thanksgiving Turkey
Things You Need:
Your fall leaves, two leaf stems, two googley eyes, a scissors, and your Mod Podge.
Last we have a fun craft for those of you with kids and that’s a Thanksgiving turkey made out of leaves. This is great for travelers who bring home big maple leaves from Maine for creating the turkey’s feathers!
You can either Mod Podge or spray each individual leaf on each side before making this project to protect them, or you can spray your completed project.
We just sprayed down my leaves first to ensure they were coated everywhere!
After you lay out your feathers in three or four tiers and Mod Podge them together, take a leaf and cut it into a circle for the turkey’s body. Glue that on as well and then set your acrylic spray can on the body to let it dry for about 15 minutes before adding his eyes, beak, snood, and legs.
Use an orange or yellow leaf to cut out a beak then glue that one. Glue on the eyes next and then give him his little turkey snood that dangles from his neck. Finally, add the little leaf stem legs and let the can sit on the project for another 15 minutes.
And that’s it!
