Disney World Raised Their Prices

Sundance Vacations Disney World

If you’re traveling to Disney this year, you might be in for a bit of a shock, or not. Disney World raised their prices again. They have been increasing their prices every year since 1972, with the exception of 1976 and 1977.  Walt Disney World is raising its admission ticket prices for its most popular times like Christmas and New Year’s Eve in 2019. Disney announced its new ‘Date-Based Ticket Pricing System’ is now in effect. The prices are more expensive for the busier travel dates. They used sales in the past years to determine what times of the year are busiest. Disney stated, “As our parks continue to increase in popularity, this new pricing model is part of our broader efforts to better spread attendance throughout the year, and is intended to help us improve and deliver a great experience for our guests.”

When Disney first opened, Walt did not want the traditional ride-by-ride pricing. So, he came up with a plan to have the most popular rides cost more, and the less popular rides would cost less to ride. The system consisted of ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’,’D’ and ‘E’ tickets. The ‘A’ tickets were the least popular and cost the least to ride whereas the ‘E’ tickets were the most popular and cost the most to ride. The ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ tickets gained popularity but never became as popular as the ‘E’ tickets.

The price of a One-Day Ticket when they first opened in 1971, was only $3.50! The new pricing has the regular day admission prices starting at $109.00 but it can increase to as much as $159.00! If you want to add on the Hopper Pass, it will cost you $60.00 to $80.00 more, depending on the length of your stay. Below I have listed price increase details. If you need pricing for additional days other than what’s shown, they can be found here.

The Walt Disney World Blog, shows that the ‘Three-Day Ticket’ could end up costing you $4.00 less per day than previous years. The ‘Six-Day Ticket’ starting July 4, 2019 could cost you $3.00 more per day than last year, but the ‘Two-Day Ticket’ starting in August 2019, would end up costing you $4.00 less per day than 2018 pricing.

You also have a smaller timeframe to utilize your park tickets. In previous years, you would have had up to 14 days to take advantage of your pass. Now the length depends on the length of your ticket, and if you purchased the Hopper Plus Pass. You will have 4 days to use a two-day ticket, and 14-days to use a 10-day ticket. You will have the option to pay extra to extend the tickets to be valid any day through December 2019.

What does this mean for you?

If you plan on traveling during peak times, holidays or when school is out, you will be paying more for each ticket. If you have the luxury to vacation during the off-peak season, you can find yourself saving a few bucks. The continuous price increases mean it will be more expensive to visit the “Happiest Place on Earth”.
